Privacy

Vaults of the ODD is a small, independent site run from the United Kingdom. This page sets out what data is collected, how it is used, and the rights you have over it under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

How the site is hosted

The site is a set of static pages served by GitHub Pages, a service provided by GitHub, Inc. It runs no database and sets no cookies of its own. When you visit, GitHub’s servers automatically process your IP address and basic request information in order to deliver the pages and to protect the service, as described in the GitHub Privacy Statement. GitHub acts as the hosting provider for this processing.

Comments

Where comments are enabled, they are provided through giscus, which stores them as discussions in this site’s public repository on GitHub. To post a comment you sign in with a GitHub account, and your comment, your GitHub username and your public profile are then handled by GitHub under its own privacy terms. If comments are not enabled on a page, no comment data is collected. The site owner does not separately store your email address.

Analytics

To understand how many people visit and which writing is read, the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. This is a privacy-first, cookieless service: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not track you across other websites. It records only aggregated, anonymous information such as page views, approximate country, referring site, and browser type. It does not build a profile of you and cannot identify you as an individual. Because no cookies or similar tracking technologies are used, no consent banner is required; a short notice is shown for transparency. The data is processed by Cloudflare, Inc. on the site owner’s behalf.

What is not collected

No newsletter sign-ups, no accounts on this site, no advertising networks, and no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Your reading here is not a product being sold to anyone. The only cookies that may be set are those GitHub uses if you choose to sign in to leave a comment, which are strictly necessary for that function you have opted into.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to request a copy of any personal data held about you, to have it corrected if inaccurate, and to have it deleted. For anything held by this site, such as a comment, contact the site owner via buymeacoffee.com/drewgriffiths and it will be dealt with within a reasonable period. Data held by GitHub as the hosting and comments provider is subject to GitHub’s own privacy statement and your rights are exercised through GitHub.

If you believe your data has been mishandled, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
